Silverado Series
Fog greeted us at the ramp and at take off. The plan was to fish 6 areas where
we
had caught good fish during the week. We used dipsticks, craw tubes, brush hogs,
jigs and top water.
None of the spots we caught fish on during practice panned out like they did
during
the week. It was a struggle all day up until about 1:30. At 1:30 we had 6 fish
and
would be lucky if we had 10 pounds. Around 1:30 we caught a fish that helped.
About
2:00 we got onto a school and caught 3 of the 6 fish we brought to the scale.
Our total weight was 14.99 pounds for a 35th place finish.
This is the first time I have fished a body of water where you must catch
smallmouth. Looked for largemouth during the week but never found them
consistently.
Considering the circumstances and the field, I should be happy not finishing
last.
I fell to 20th in year to date standings which puts me out of the TOC.
Next stop is the Horseshoe chain near Cold Spring.

Forecast today was 80% chance of storms. We saw no rain today but last night a
heavy
storm came through.
Checked out some more new areas today and found it to be a very tough day. We
got
one nice smallie early and a few ok ones throughout the day. I'm amazed at how
many
10" largemouth there are in this lake without even mixing in a keeper.
The pattern we are on and if it holds up we will be ok. A win? We'll need a
little
luck. It could go the other way too and the pattern could change and we would be
in
trouble. I'll only have 3 rods on the deck because the presentation is part of
the
pattern (educational tip for newcomers).
I drew boat 16. I know the starting spot, I'll just have to see if I get it.
Need 2 good fish there for starters!

Green Lake
A very windy day today. Most guys including myself had to use an alternative
ramp.
We stayed out of the wind for most of the day. Our first spot produced 2 small
largemouth. Our next stop produced 4 keeper smallies including 2 nice ones. We
also
had a couple follow to the boat. This is very likely an area we will fish on
tournament day.
I decided to take on the beastly wind. That lasted 10 minutes as it was very
difficult to fish. Headed to 2 more spots and caught 2 small largemouth. The
last
stop finally produced a real nice largemouth and one small one. Also mixed in
was a
keeper smallmouth.
Wind is supposed to switch tomorrow but with it a strong chance of storms. Hope
it
holds off as I have a few more areas to check out.
So far the pattern for catching fish has been consistent. Right now we are not
on a
winning pattern but a pretty solid one.

Before heading to the lake I did some map work and talked to a couple of guys
just
to give me some ideas and tips.
Arrived at the ramp and met my partner Aaron. We started fishing around 9:45. We
only worked two areas today but both were quite large areas. We threw nearly
everything possible. To my surprise I did not catch one fish on a Northland
Dipstick. The only largemouth we caught was less than 11". Several smallmouth
were
caught and a few of them pretty good size.
The key to pre-fishing is to not only find spots, but just as importantly a
pattern.
The fish we caught were all generally the same depth. Some were caught fishing
slow
and some were caught fishing fast. But the depth was consistent.
Need to have a productive day tomorrow as the forecast is for storms on Friday
and
I'm one who doesn't put the boat in the water with lightning around. Using
Thursday
as possibly the last day of pre-fishing.
