Fuel Crazy
by Robert Weippert

I know that all tournament fisherman have this thought bouncing off the inside of their heads as we approach fishing time and pulling that 3000+ pound boat behind you truck or SUV vehicle: this season is going to get expensive!
The price of fuel continues to increase. It's crazy!

So here are a few things you can do to cut back on your fuel consumption and save a few bucks to buy that new "magic bait" that is sure to put you in the money.

1.) Keep tires inflated properly. Under inflated tires waste fuel, cause uneven tread wear, and shorten the life of your tires. Have your tires alignment and balanced.

2.) Keep up on regular tune ups and maintenance schedules. Fuel filter, air filter, etc.

3.) Avoid long periods of idling your engine. Examples: boat ramp, drive thru,  etc.

4.) Avoid excessive acceleration. Try to use the gradual increase method.

5.) THIS ONE CAN BE TOUGH!!! Slow down! Rather than driving 70-75, try 65-70 or even 60-65, by doing this you could increase your gas mileage by 2mpg more.

6.) Make sure your gas cap is tight. Gas easily evaporates.

7.) When driving on the highway turn on your AC and close your windows. In stop and go traffic, shut off your AC and open your windows. Sunroofs should be closed on highway and open in stop and go traffic in town.
Wind resistance can affect your gas mileage up to as much as 1-2 miles per gallon.
Air conditioning can lower your fuel economy by as much as 20 %.

I would like to recommend all the readers  visit www.knfilters.com and check out all of their great products. I recently install a K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit (KIPK) in mid March. I have noticed better horsepower and increased gas mileage between 2 and 2.5 more miles per gallon since I installed it. I am very impressed with their company and the amount of time they put into their testing and scientific research of their products.
They do great things! I highly recommend all the readers  try their fine products.

Fish long, be safe, and prosper.
