Tournament
Angler

Background:
In 2003 I was invited to fish in the Camp Confidence tournament with one of Minnesota’s best tournament anglers, Paul Kielb. I had never fished for bass until that weekend. I was hooked and within two weeks I had a bass boat. In 2003 and 2004 I fished only a couple of tournaments. I was mainly focused on working on what I had learned from Paul and my goal was to fish 6 to 8 tournaments in 2005. My first year, I had some good moments and some rough moments and learned quite a bit. You can read about how my season turned around in an article I wrote for Classic Bass called “Just Go Fishing!” 2006 was not a banner year in terms of cashing checks, but I enjoyed myself and met some great people. 2007 I improved and 2008 was my best year to date.
2008 was an exciting season. The season started off being asked to guide Jim Kleinsasser of the Minnesota Vikings in the governor’s opener. I want to give a shout out to John Janousek, Dr. Ryan Buell and Patty Buell for making it a great event. We went crappie fishing with little black and white beetle spins and Jim caught over 40 fish in 2 ½ hours. Jim and I had the privilege of a father and his 5th grade daughter from Eagle View Elementary join us. She was chosen for academic achievements. If her and her Dad weren’t looking at Jim catching a fish, that’s because they had a fish of their own as they caught about 30 panfish between the two of them.
Another highlight of 2008 was being part of the Camp Confidence Fishing Classic. This is a 100% charity tournament. Subway of Nisswa donated 280 box lunches for the participants. It is a very well run tournament. To be involved in 2009, go to www.campconfidence.com. I will be there again and Subway of Nisswa will once again be donating box lunches for all participants.
My final highlight was a trip to Kentucky Lake for the ABA/BASS Regionals, which concluded my season.

With the support from Subway (Nisswa, Staples, Crosslake & Breezy Point), Farm Island Marine, Skeeter and Yamaha I’m looking forward to the 2009 season fishing in about 20 tournaments as a member of Team Skeeter.
