'Go To' Presentations
(fifth in a series)
by Bill Mathis
I
recently asked all Classic Bass Pro Staff Members and Field Staff Members if
they had to use one presentation all day long, what would it be.
This is part 5 in the
series, featuring Classic Bass Field Staff Members Wayne
Ek, Jason Dudek and
Jeremiah Shaver.
I asked all three: “ If you had to use one bait all day long, what would
be your 'go to' bait?”
We’ll begin with Jason Dudek. Jason talks about his favorite bait, the Roboworm.
“The one bait that I use the most is a 6" FX straight tail Roboworm.
I'll fish this on drop shot rig with 8 lb. Gamma fluorocarbon. I use 1/4 oz. XPS
finesse drop shot weights because it comes through the weeds a lot better than
the round and oval weights .
As far as hooks go, I mainly use two sizes #1 and 1/0 Owner mosquito hooks. I
nose hook the worm with the exposed hook and I know it sounds like it may get
snagged on the weeds, but its not that bad. A lot of times you can rip it free
with that low stretch fluorocarbon.
The reason I love this 6" FX worm is that it floats and has tons of salt in it.
The key with this worm is that it sits parallel to the bottom just like a
minnow. Other worms sink and are sitting horizontal to the bottom and not as
life-like.
As far rods go I prefer a 7'0" medium spinning Setyr rod if I'm nose hooking a
bait and a 7'0" Med/Heavy spinning if I'm rigging it weedless.”
Jeremiah Shaver talks about swimming jigs.
“A White/Chartreuse Brovarney Baits swim jig with a 3" white single grub tail.
If I'm struggling, I don't have time to flip or finesse, I'm casting 100 times a
minute and covering a ton of water looking for active fish.
Even if I'm not in a tournament, the swim jig is the most versatile lure on the
market and can be fished through anything not excluding rock, wood, weeds,
shallow, deep, etc.”
2006 BASS Weekend Series qualifier Wayne Ek gets right to the point of what he
likes to do.
In the spring, it would be a Jig/pig combo of some type.
Summertime, I like a Texas-rigged plastic worm.
In the fall, a crank-bait is my favorite.
If I had to fish with one bait all year long, and all day long, it would be a
spinner-bait.
