Feider Begins his Climb

Elite Series Pro Garners Top 50 Finish and Takes Aim at Cayuga

Elite Series Pro Seth Feider began chipping away at the 81 point deficit that separated him and the 2016 Bassmaster AOY Championship, by finishing 37th at Lake Texoma last week.  This finish pushed Seth up to 73rd in the AOY standings, only 23 away from that coveted 50 mark.

Seth’s practice at Texoma was at he put it, “BRUTAL!”  “But it got better every day, which was a good sign.  The talk at the meeting was that 4-5 keepers a day would get you paid.”

On day one, Seth had a quick limit of small spotted bass by fishing the Rapala Shadow Rap Shad in Elite Blue by fishing around floating boat docks.  “There was a shad spawn going on, but as the water temperatures climbed that bite died off,” said Seth.  “I felt really good about having a limit, but when I kept catching small bass, I knew the bite had turned on and that the big bags were going to be coming in!”

The water on Texoma during practice was very high, as anglers were fishing around flooded bushes, picnic tables, you name it, it was flooded.  Then as the tournament began, the waters began to recede and this out flow of water turned the bass on!

Days two and three had Seth flipping bushes with a ¾ oz Outkast RTX jig and included some last minute excitement on day two.  “I got back near check-in with about five minutes to spare on day two, so I flipped a few bushes nearby and made a huge upgrade with a 3 ½ lb fish,” said Feider.

Practice for Feider and the rest of the Elite Series field begins Monday with the Cayuga Lake event running from June 23-26.  As Seth expressed last week he is looking forward to this event and feels comfortable about the options he has in front of him.  “Practice is going to be a day light to dark search of putting the trolling motor down along the grass lines and looking for that winning school.”

Good luck at Cayuga Seth and stay tuned to Classic Bass for updates following that event.
