Minn Kota Elite Series Pro Koby Kreiger on the River

See an Explosive Topwater Strike and the Ultrex Trolling Motor with the Elite Series Pro

For those that think professional fisherman don’t have bad starts to the day, you can eliminate that myth now.  We planned on meeting 2nd year Elite Series Pro, Koby Kreiger at the boat landing on the Mississippi River for the second day of practice at 6:30 a.m.  Well…we didn’t get on the water with Koby until close to 8:00, the reason, the outlet he had plugged his extension cord in to charge his batteries was faulty and his batteries didn’t charge.  So after getting his batteries a few hours on the charger, we were off on the Mississippi River!

After a brief run down river, Koby began fishing a Spook around some shoreline wood with slight current on it.

Now it takes talent to catch a bass that size!

Koby kept one of his Humminbird Helix 10 units on mapping mode full time, in effort to keep his boat in the water and off a sand bar.

Not the winning fish, but Kreiger was getting dialed into a Spook bite that he felt he could run the whole event and behind other anglers who were throwing a swim jig or vibrating jig.  Despite having only used the new Minn Kota Ultrex Trolling Motor for a two events now, Koby was a huge fan of the Spot Lock feature!

As we concluded the day, prior to some nasty weather moving in, Kreiger hooked up with this chunky 2.5 lb Mississippi River largemouth that we caught on film!

Koby stuck to his game plan of fishing the Spook and was quick out of the gate each morning, getting a 10-11 lb limit with ease.   The quality bites that he was able to get every so often during practice eluded him during the tournament and unfortunately he finished the event in 68th place with 22 lb 15 oz, which put him outside of the top 50, meaning his 2016 Elite Series season came to an end.  Koby will head back to his home in Florida and be doing plenty of saltwater fishing during the off-season.
